Challenge 288:
INCONVENIENCES
Sometimes it’s the little things that really get you. The potted plant you could have sworn was out of the cat’s reach – except apparently it wasn’t. The lunch you were definitely going to pack, until you ran out of time. Someone needs to put gas in the car, and you have a meeting all morning, and there’s a horde of alien locusts on Main Street again so you’re going to have to work around that, too. It may or may not be anybody’s fault, exactly – except the alien locusts – but it sure is inconvenient!

Write a story about inconveniences.

BONUS GOAL: Cat-astrophe

If your submission features cats (alien cat-ish things count), it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!

Challenge ends Monday, January 26 at 9:00PM EST.

Here are the entries for this week's challenge:

List of entries )

In order to vote, please reply to this post using the form provided. All comments are screened, and entries are listed in the order they were submitted. For your vote to qualify, you must fill out your entire voting card (all three spots) in order to be counted. First place votes are worth 3 points, second place votes are worth 2 points, and third place votes are worth 1 point. Meeting the bonus goal on an entry gets an extra point for that submission.

When voting, please copy/paste the ENTRY NUMBER and the FIC TITLE from the list above into the spot you're voting for (this prevents accidentally mis-numbering a vote and casting it for the wrong entry). It should look like this:

First Place: 61. Fic Title Here
Second Place: 88. Another Fic Title
Third Place: 47. Finally a third fic title goes here

Please note that you cannot vote for your own entry, and that votes cannot be made anonymously. You do not have to be a member of the community in order to vote, nor have submitted an entry for this week; everyone is welcome to participate in the voting. IP addresses are logged to prevent duplicate voting.

Voting closes Wednesday, January 21, at 9:00PM EST.

Challenge 287:
HOT WATER
Hot water is one of those things many of us take for granted. Just turn the tap and there it is, ready to heat up a little further for a nice hot bath, fill the sink to clean something, or take a nice hot bath! But it’s not always that simple. In a lot of places, hot water’s not that easy to come by, and even when it is, there’s a fine line between comfortably warm and far too hot.

In the metaphorical sense, “hot water” refers more to the latter than the former! Someone who’s in hot water has found themselves in some kind of trouble. No matter how nice the water seemed originally, it’s getting a little too hot…

Write a story about hot water (in either sense of the phrase).

BONUS GOAL: Sparkling Skies

If your submission features stars, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!
